"Much Ado About Writing" program

Calling all fiction writers!

Calling all fiction writers! Do your scenes fly by or drag? Does your setting invite readers to interact with it? Have you given voice to your characters? Not sure?

If you're serious about refining your pages, join us for a new topic on how to hone your craft of writing. September's topic is character motivation.

This workshop is for you if you've had feedback on your pages for any of the following:

  1. I don’t get why your character does [whatever they do]

  2. I don’t believe your character would act that way in this situation

  3. Your plot feels contrived or relies too heavily on coincidence(s)

  4. The character/story reads or feels flat

In this hour-long workshop, we will guide you through a way to evaluate whether your character's motivation is lacking in any way, and how to fix it. Participants in the call can jump in the hot seat for feedback on their character motivation and goals.

Here's what you need:

  • A place to write notes

  • Curiosity and a willingness to look at your work through a fresh lens

Come away with specific techniques for strengthening character motivation. Don’t miss this opportunity to level-up your craft!
